Penn State Health has signed a 10-year contract with Siemens Healthineers for advanced imaging systems to diagnose and treat patients in need of radiology, radiation oncology and cardiology services.
Penn State Health expects to replace 70% of its diagnostic and image-guided therapy systems for its inpatient and outpatient settings in the next five years. Through the deal, it aims to provide a more optimal experience for patients and real-time imaging guidance at its primary, specialty and acute care locations, close to where they live.
"Patients needing advanced cross-sectional imaging such as MRI and CT are among those who will benefit most from this agreement, which provides Penn State Health and its patients access to cutting edge technology. It also allows us to better use that technology regardless of where the patient is located," Dr. Timothy Mosher, chair of the department of radiology at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, told HCB News.

Among the modalities that will be installed are Magnetom Sola 1.5T and the Corindus CorPath GRX. Siemens also plans to install its AI-Rad Companion to reduce repetitive tasks for clinicians and increase diagnostic precision with automated image quantification; and its AI-Pathway Companion to integrate relevant data with AI to diagnose and make treatment decisions along disease-specific clinical pathways. Another addition is Siemens' Virtual Cockpit capability, which will allow for remote operation of imaging equipment and support from the tertiary care facilities to more outlying facilities for real-time support of complex studies.
The enhanced connectivity from these installations is expected to help radiologists at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center locally read and virtually guide imaging in real time, regardless of where the procedure occurs. It will also be able to monitor radiation safety protocols to optimize radiation dose administration to patients.
As part of the Value Partnership, experts from Siemens will continue to work closely with Penn State Health counterparts to achieve joint goals and optimize performance across the care continuum, particularly as it relates to the application of the deployed technologies.
"Together the teams will identify areas which lend themselves to an improvement in performance, define benchmarks and monitor progress towards jointly defined goals," a Siemens spokesperson told HCB News. "Supporting these efforts is the need to provide actionable intelligence in the form of customized dashboards reflecting key performance elements and supporting decision making in real time."Back to HCB News
