UCSF hires interim chief of interventional radiology

Nicholas Fidelman, MD has graciously agreed to serve as interim chief of Interventional Radiology at the UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging following the departure of Maureen Kohi, MD who accepted a position as the Ernest H. Wood Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiology at University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.

Dr. Fidelman came to UCSF in 1998 as a medical student, completing his MD in 2002. He went on to do his residency at UCSF as well as his fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. He joined the faculty in 2008.

Distinguished as a clinical educator and practitioner in the areas of biliary tract interventions, transplant interventions, and interventional oncology, Dr. Fidelman has also mentored dozens of trainees over the years. His research focuses on advancing the field of Interventional Radiology through clinical trials, for which he currently holds leadership research positions on 10 ongoing or recently completed prospective trials.

Dr. Fidelman is a frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences. His current leadership in professional organizations includes as a co-founder and executive committee member of the American Society of Digestive Disease Interventions, co-director of the Digestive Disease Interventions Annual Meeting, Chair of the American College of Radiology Appropriateness Committee, Interventional Radiology Panel #2, Coordinator for the Society of Interventional Oncology, Neuroendocrine Tumor Task Force, and numerous committee memberships. Nick is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Digestive Disease Interventions and a reviewer for Radiology, Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Public Library of Science (PLoS One) among others.
