From the April 2014 issue of HealthCare Business News magazine

David Mason and Nelson Hendry started Health Connect Partners (HCP) back in 2006 with a solo focus on the hospital pharmacy market. Today the show brand has grown to include several other specialties — including imaging. HCP’s 2014 Radiology & Imaging Conference will take place April 28-30 in St. Louis, Mo. DOTmed HealthCare Business sat down with Mason to talk about this year’s highlights.

HCBN: You started HCP in 2006. How has it developed through the years?
DM:
In 2006, we hosted one conference in the fall to launch our company with a focus on the hospital pharmacy market. Since then, we have added conferences in the radiology, operating room, information technology, and materials management departments. This year, we will host six conferences in total. While our focus has always been on industry leading education for the hospital and health care providers, we have continued to improve the supplier experience as well.

Our conferences provide the best live CE education in our industry and this has continued to improve since our first conference back in 2006. We are able to achieve this by allowing our Educational Advisory Board from each market to select the topics that are relevant to their respective disciplines. Each of the specific markets we serve has its own Educational Advisory Board made up of 8-10 top executives from some of the best health systems in the country. They meet by conference call about 6-9 months prior to each conference and they discuss the relevant topics and issues that they face as managers of their departments. Based on their discussions, we select the top topics and seek out the best possible speakers to present solutions to the issues or to educate the attendees on the subject.

We have also made sure to include some leadership and motivation oriented educational components for each conference. Our keynote speaker for the 2014 Radiology & Imaging Conference (April 28 - 30, 2014, St. Louis, MO), will be Shep Hyken. Shep will deliver a presentation titled “The Amazement Revolution” that focuses on customer service. Shep is a very entertaining speaker who is an expert in the field of customer service and customer loyalty. He will teach our attendees specific tactics and tools that will help the attendees learn how to deliver an amazing service experience to their customers and patients.

HCBN: What’s so unique about the “Reverse Expo” component of the show?
DM:
The most unique aspect of the Reverse Expo is the reversal of roles between the provider and supplier. The supplier has the opportunity to see top decision makers in the industry in a very short period of time. This can be done without having to ship an elaborate booth to the conference and sit in the booth for several days to only hope the decision makers come by their booth. We give the supplier a booth map that shows them all of the decision makers’ locations during the Reverse Expo and they just walk up and speak with them during the Reverse Expo Period. The providers love the experience as well because they don’t have time during their busy schedules at their hospitals and health systems to meet with the suppliers. And, they don’t have time at one of the large industry trade shows to see some of the smaller suppliers. Each conference, we hear a success story of a provider who has found a solution to a problem from a supplier that they did not even know existed prior to the conference. It is this opportunity to connect the supplier and provider together that makes our entire conference experience unique, not just the Reverse Expo.
