Big red flag if the company only lists a P.O.Box as their company address. In my experience this signifies that they do not willingly want certain people to know where they are operating out of. If anyone wants to contribute to this post, please feel free.
I sell medical equipment on Ebay and I have a P.O. Box.
I have it because I dont want my mail stolen again. We all have trust issues these days. It just depends on the cituation at the time.
I've had some bad experiences with eBay too. One seller sold me some specialty tools and then deleted their account when the equipment did not work and I asked them to take it back. I won an auction for old used equipment and the seller refused to sell to me because the price was too low. EBay did nothing about it.
I also use my PO Box as a main address on eBay -- too many unscrupulous people out there. I provide a physical address upon purchase for shipping purposes.

eBay is a really safe bet when buying - esp. if you pay via PayPal. Both orgs stand behind their service(s).
PayPal will claw back monies in a heartbeat if there are verifiable issues.

In many rural locations, a P.O. Box may be necessary. I had a P.O. Box for years until I moved and it was never an issue.
