Northwell Health has opened a multipractice, outpatient cancer center in Queens.
Northwell Health has opened a $52 million multipractice healthcare facility in Queens, New York, which includes the largest outpatient cancer center in the borough.

Northwell Health at Rego Park will include Northwell Health Labs, Vivo Health Pharmacy, Rego Park Imaging, STARS rehabilitation, and specialists from over 18 different disciplines. The 70,000-square-foot facility will also be home to the $32 million Northwell Health Cancer Institute at Rego Park for oncology care.

“We have a long history of service to Queens and we’re doubling down at Rego Park by adding more of what’s in demand, from OB/GYN coverage to neurology and advanced imaging services,” said Dr. John D’Angelo, senior vice president and regional executive director of Northwell’s Central region, in a statement.

According to Northwell, specialists will be able to speak multiple languages to accommodate non-English speaking patients from diverse backgrounds. It also has translated medical forms, brochures, and other communications into several languages.

A stand-alone cancer center
The Northwell Health Cancer Institute at Rego Park will provide specialty care for breast surgery, colorectal surgery, gynecologic oncology, head and neck surgery, surgical oncology, thoracic surgery, urology, medical oncology, and hematology.

It also will have nutrition, social work, nurse navigation, survivorship, genetic counseling, and other ancillary services; conduct clinical trials; and feature an infusion center with 42 private treatment areas, medical and surgical oncology suites, and exam rooms.

Patients will be able to see medical specialists for side effects from treatment and undergo diagnostic medical scans, with Rego Park Imaging providing PET, CT, DEXA, MR, ultrasound, X-ray, breast, and other types of screenings.

Additionally, Queens Medical Associates, a member of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute, will move its hematology and oncology practice from Fresh Meadows, where it has been for the last 30 years, into the center, while maintaining other Queens neighborhood practices.

Rego Park cancer patients will also have access to specialized services at Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Forest Hills Hospital; and comprehensive surgical care, including robotic surgery, from R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park and its Cancer Center in Lake Success.
