Brainlab will provide software to Accuray to enhance the CyberKnife S7 platform's role in neuro-radiosurgery
Accuray Incorporated is utilizing software designed by Brainlab to expand the role of the CyberKnife S7 treatment platform in the neuro-radiosurgery market.

Among the programs that will be used with the CyberKnife are Brainlab Elements planning software, Snke OS tech platform for interoperability, and Quentry, the Brainlab patient registry platform.

"This marks an important next step in the evolution of the CyberKnife platform by expanding the capabilities to align with the needs of the neurosurgical community,” said Joshua Levine, president and chief executive officer of Accuray, in a statement. “We believe our two companies bring powerful and complementary expertise that, when combined, will raise the bar for what can be achieved in terms of efficiency, accuracy and precision, on behalf of neurosurgeons and their patients."

The CyberKnife S7 System is a robotic, noninvasive radiation therapy solution for treating cancerous and benign tumors throughout the body. It consists of state-of-the-art robotic architecture combined with fully integrated image guidance, and continual delivery adaptation and motion synchronization. These capabilities together enable stereotactic radiosurgery to be delivered with sub-millimeter precision and accuracy. The device is routinely used to treat conditions in the brain, while minimizing dose exposure to brain tissues that facilitate hearing and vision functions, as well as for functional neurologic and movement disorders.

Brainlab Elements is a subscription-based, indication-specific software with applications that provide contouring capabilities, a higher degree of automation and enhanced delivery for quick planning. Each application targets a specific area and uses its planning capabilities to spare organs at risk and ensure delivery of highly conformal doses. Multiple Brain Mets SRS, for instance, allows for simultaneous delivery of single-session treatments for multiple metastases.

Snke OS links data sources together to create comprehensive digital patient models and continually updates them throughout the patient’s course of treatment. These updates enable the program to quickly adjust plans, creating adaptive radiotherapy workflows. The models are also integrated and aggregated in the cloud-based version of Snke OS to enable systematic analysis that helps create digital clinical research.

Quentry allows users to add CyberKnife treatment data to neuro-radiosurgery patient registries, which stimulates participation and improves patient outcomes. Physicians can also share images and display them in a web-based viewer, as well as provide commentary on them. It is the first cloud-based medical service to receive certification from EuroPriSe.

“The Accuray team is excited to partner with Brainlab, recognized leaders in treatment planning, surgical navigation and innovators in radiotherapy and radiosurgery solutions that advance patient care,” said Levine.
