NuVasive Inc. has entered into a three-year sole source supplier contract with healthcare improvement enterprise, Premier, agreeing to offer intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) services to Premier clientele.

In accordance with the agreement, Premier members will gain access to IONM services provided by NuVasive Clinical Services (NCS) for a full range of procedures to reduce surgical risk, under special pricing and terms pre-negotiated by Premier.

“NuVasive Clinical Services will be delivering traditional and NVM5 technologies to fulfill intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) requests. IONM is the use of advanced electrophysiological modalities to monitor and evaluate the functional integrity of critical neural structures such as the brain, nerves, and spinal cord in real time during surgeries where these structures potentially could be at risk," NuVasive told HCB News. "The goal is to identify changes in brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerve function prior to irreversible damage.”

NCS IONM services alert surgeons to potential harm or compromise to the spinal cord or neural structures during a variety of procedures, including those of the spine and brain, offering critical information to address issues.

Accredited by the Joint Commission, the NCS IONM program relies on proprietary neuromonitoring technology along with board-certified neurologists and highly trained neurophysiologists to provide real-time information to surgeons and anesthesiologists.

It also possesses a nationwide footprint, one of many aspects highly desired in a partner for Premier. “NuVasive Clinical Services met several critical criteria for this Premier contract award, including, but not limited to, a significant geographical coverage and nationwide footprint, multiple years of experience in the category, a strong track record of employee retention and tenure, custom reporting capability and dedicated real-time professional oversight for their technicians,” said NuVasive.

The partnership follows another undertaken this year by NuVasive that oversaw the integration of its Pulse surgical automation platform with Siemens Healthineers’ Cios Spin mobile 3D imaging system for intraoperative quality assurance, providing greater visualization and advanced clinical benefits for driving superior patient outcomes that improve OR workflow and offer greater precision in the use of minimally disruptive spinal surgery technology.

The agreement between NuVasive and Premier is expected to take effect on November 1, 2018.
