Cooper University Health Care in New Jersey recently installed the Bernoulli One clinical surveillance, medical device integration (MDI) and real-time data analytics platform.

This platform will replace an existing MDI system from another vendor.

Medical devices across the health system’s critical care units, emergency departments, perioperative suites, select telemetry and oncology units, and off-campus surgical centers will be integrated into its Epic EHR.

Cooper has over 630 physicians in 70-plus specialties, and more than 7,000 employees. It runs a network of 100-plus medical offices and four urgent care centers throughout southern New Jersey.

Jayashree Raman, CIO of Cooper University Hospital, believes that Bernoulli One will help them improve connectivity across the entire health system.

“We anticipate measurably improved automation of patient documentation and simplified clinical workflow that will have a positive impact on provider satisfaction and patient outcomes,” he said in a statement.

That platform can connect to almost any clinical system including patient monitors, ventilators, and specialty monitors, as well as perfusion equipment, patient warmers and EHRs. It also integrates with third-party alarm management and care team communication software.

To date, it has been installed in more than 1,200 facilities.

Epic recently announced at HIMSS its intention to team up with Nuance to integrate the latter's AI-empowered Dragon Medical Virtual Assistant into its EHR platform to strengthen caregiver productivity and efficiency across continua of care.

The agreement will provide Epic users with access to three application areas from the first commercially available use cases of Dragon Medical: Epic Rover for entering and confirming patient data with commands to flowsheets; Epic Haiku, for searching and entering data with commands; and Epic Cadence for automating and managing scheduled appointments through voice and natural dialogue.
