Hologic Inc.’s Fluoroscan Insight FD Mini C-Arm Imaging System for skeletal health care is now available for purchase in the U.S. and Europe.

The skeletal imaging solution, first unveiled at the 2017 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual conference, produces high-resolution images with a mode for reducing dose by as much as 50 percent, compared to auto mode, improving productivity and workflow to enhance patient experiences.

“The improved capabilities of the Fluoroscan Insight FD Mini C-Arm Imaging System answer key market needs and allow us to provide our customers with innovative updates to best serve their patients,” Peter J. Valenti III, division president of breast and skeletal health solutions at Hologic, told HCB News. “The system now offers clinicians the largest image size and highest image resolution available in the industry. The InSight FD mini C-arm is also much more dose-efficient compared to some competitors, meaning it can get an equivalent image with a lower dose than others on the market.”

Production of such images is due to the solution’s MegaView Image in Review mode which enables the display of 50 percent larger-sized scans on an intuitive 24-inch HD touchscreen, and makes full-detector resolution available.

It also offers diversified imaging options, greater flexible storage and transport, and an enhanced interface with a pinch-to-zoom feature, saved notifications for identifying saved images, a save filter to let clinicians search for saved images and an auto-save option.

Attached to the system is a rotating flat panel detector that can be optimized for imaging long bones with radiation kept to a minimum.

“This means that for the same use case – for example, a surgeon taking six total images during a surgical procedure – the total radiation dose for the patient can be less using this new mode, compared to the auto mode that has historically been used in the operating room,” said Valenti.

Fluoroscan InSight FD Mini C-Arm utilizes the recently released InSight 6.1 software and hardware updates that include a streamlined monitor arm with integrated keyboard and reduced top casting, which increase range of motion and positioning options in the operating room.

In addition, the total width of the system has been reduced by simplifying the method for locking the C-arm.

Options for software updates are available to current users of the solution.
