GE Healthcare has entered into a licensing and professional services agreement with DiA Imaging Analysis to develop its automated imaging analysis technology to work with GE ultrasound devices.

The multi-year, non-exclusive deal will provide GE access to the Israeli-based company’s technology, which is designed to provide immediate, accurate and reproducible image interpretation for ultrasound in point of care settings.

"DiA's LVivo cognitive image processing technology is based on advanced pattern recognition and machine learning algorithms, that automatically imitate the way the human eye identifies borders and motion, and produce data and scorings to assist physicians in evaluation and treatment," Hila Goldman-Aslan, the CEO and a co-founder of DiA, told HCB News. "The LVivo Auto EF delivers quick, accurate, reproducible Automated Ultrasound Analysis to evaluate ejection fraction, which is an important measurement in determining cardiac performance."

DiA tools improve patient monitoring through the use of advanced, proprietary pattern recognition and machine learning algorithms, and act as a source of support for physician-made decisions. They are the first to market for point of care echo ultrasound and will soon be joined by other imaging analysis technology that DiA is planning to release.

"This agreement with GE Healthcare points to the need in the market for accurate, fast and objective technology to evaluate ultrasound clips both for Echo expert and novice users," Goldman-Aslan said. "It is also a validation of the power of our software and algorithms from the market leader in ultrasound devices. Working together with GE Healthcare will expose our technology to a variety of markets and users, including physicians and caregivers in various point-of-care settings. This exposure will allow us to learn from the very best how to address their needs."

DiA recently agreed to integrate its software with an ultrasound line of products developed by China-based Neusoft Medical Systems to provide accurate and reproducible images of the heart for quicker analysis by physicians.

DiA will display its systems at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago at the Machine Learning Showcase this month, at booth 8545.

The technology is expected to become available on GE ultrasound devices sometime next year.
