CHICAGO -- The American Medical Association (AMA) has promoted Benjamin Mindell, Editor-in-Chief of the AMA's weekly news publication American Medical News (AMNews), to vice president.

Mindell has served as Editor-in-Chief of AMNews since 2005, a post he will retain. Mindell joined the AMA in 1987 and has served the newsroom in a number of capacities, including Business editor, Opinion editor and the publication's deputy editor.

Published since 1958, AMNews has excelled in recent years, reaching the top tier of medical publications in circulation, readership and ad pages. In January, Medical Marketing & Media magazine named AMNews its "Media Brand of the Year." Recently, AMNews expanded its reach to the airwaves in an exclusive partnership with ReachMD on XM Satellite Radio (XM 233), which now features AMNews content in four daily radio segments.

"Ben has brought excellence in medical journalism to the AMA for nearly twenty years," said Gary C. Epstein, AMA Chief Marketing Officer. "I'm confident that in this new capacity Ben will continue to bring new and innovative ideas to the AMA and AMNews, which continues its great tradition as a trusted medical news source among physicians and medical professionals."

Mindell is a five-time recipient of the Peter Lisagor Award for Exemplary Journalism for editorials that appeared in American Medical News. Before joining the AMA, Mindell worked as a reporter for the City News Bureau of Chicago. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago.
