Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington encompasses an ambulatory care center serving more than 3,000 patients each day and a 293-bed hospital. Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, in Peabody, serves more than 800 outpatients each day and includes a 10-bed hospital. Both feature 24-hour emergency departments, and an American College of Surgeons verified Level II Trauma Center is based at the Burlington facility.

Cardiology/Electrophysiology (EP) Fellowship

Program Summary
The Department of Cardiology offers a one- or two-year fellowship in clinical cardiac electrophysiology designed to provide comprehensive subspecialty training for individuals planning to pursue a career in this field. There are two fully funded ACGME-approved positions at the PGY-6 or PGY-7 level.

All fellows will have completed the required three-year training in internal medicine and, at a minimum, two additional years in cardiovascular diseases. Fellows are expected to be able to function at a level commensurate with such experience.

The Lahey program is predominantly clinical in its focus, with a wealth of clinical material from which to derive practical educational experiences. After the satisfactory completion of this fellowship, the graduate will be capable of serving as an independent consultant and specialist in clinical cardiac electrophysiology.

Curriculum

Clinical Program
Four electrophysiology physicians and one physician assistant provide clinical services on the cardiac arrhythmia service. Staff physicians rotate on a weekly basis through three areas of clinical responsibility: invasive laboratory procedures, ward patient care, and outpatient clinic care. Service meetings and conferences are held daily to coordinate care and provide teaching to fellows. As part of their training, fellows are required to keep a procedure log and fellowship portfolio.
