Kubtec's new DR for NICU gets FDA nod

Kubtec's KUB 250
Kubtec announced late last week that their portable low-dose digital X-ray system for the neonatal intensive care unit, KUB 250, received FDA approval. It will launch worldwide on Sunday at the RSNA conference in Chicago.

The new system has 96 micron pixel resolution, which the company claims is the highest resolution low-dose imaging available. Other systems have a pixel resolution within the 150 to 170 micron range. The high resolution helps to eliminate the need to take additional X-rays, which reduces radiation exposure to the patient by up to 40 percent.

The system has a small footprint so it can be placed next to incubators in the NICU. It has an articulating arm for decubitus views and a lightweight DR detector that can be inserted into the incubator tray so the patient doesn't have to be moved.

It also features an integrated patient ID bar code scanner and has a zero-minute warm up time. Its DIGICOM software for comprehensive image enhancement includes reject analysis capabilities, exposure index, measurement tools, zoom, imaging filters and image annotation.
