DOTmed: Please outline the scope of this project.
Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce that Cape Cod Hospital this week reopened to patients the newly renovated and expanded Intensive Care Unit. The $4.9 million, year-long construction project added space and better functionality to the unit, and featured patient comfort and privacy, as well as an improved environment for staff. The project added 2,025 square feet to the unit, doubling the original area.

Intensive Care physicians, nurses and staff provided invaluable guidance for the new facility, and had extensive input into the new design. The unit contains the same 11 beds as the original, however each bed is now in its own spacious private room with breakaway doors, lifts, monitoring systems and the latest equipment.

The new unit, which has a soothing seaside décor and color scheme, also now has two nurses’ stations, new floors, windows and reception area.

DOTmed: How will this project help the community you serve?
"We completed this renovation to more effectively serve our patients with a modern, state-of-the-art ICU," said Michael Lauf, CCHC President and CEO. "We consider ICU to be vital to the health and well-being of our community, and this new unit will enhance patient access to these critical services and will promote stability of the program for the long-term."
