Adam Imaging Parts now PhiGEM Parts

by Loren Bonner, DOTmed News Online Editor | April 09, 2013
There's a new name in town — PhiGEM Parts. On April 4, Adam Imaging Parts officially announced that it will rebrand itself and change its name to PhiGEM Parts to reflect a commitment to focus solely on selling pre-owned diagnostic imaging parts from Philips Healthcare and GE Healthcare..

The family-owned, Brooklyn, New York-based parts reseller said it's the best strategy going forward for the company and the customer.

"We think our customer base will be better served by this change, as those who will need parts from the systems we support will hear 'yes' from us more often," Josh Glas, president of PhiGEM, told DOTmed News. "We will also be able to provide better support for the items we sell including, but not limited to parts identification and in some cases technical support."

Specifically, the company will be supporting Philips CT, and Philips and GE radiography, R/F, cath/angio, mammography and mobile X-ray/C-arms.

Glas said the company's business model has always been to try "to be everything to everyone." But changes in the market got them thinking this probably wasn't the best strategy going forward to stay competitive in the market.

"It's not because other manufacturers didn't sell well [that we made] the decision to stop supporting them. We felt that we were not as well positioned within the market to be competitive enough on the Siemens and Toshiba side in addition to GE CT, which we will not be focusing on, although we will be focused on other GE radiology modalities," said Glas.

While the new name is effective immediately, there will be a transition phase where PhiGEM will have to liquidate its stock of OEM parts that are not Philips or GE.

The company said that over the next several months, they will be slowly shipping these parts to "predetermined partners of ours throughout the country." Customers will still be able to search for these parts on PhiGEM's database, which has also been improved to be more searchable on its website in real time. PhiGEM also added that some parts will be labeled as "in stock". In those cases, they will grant extra discounting on these items in an effort to liquidate the surplus as quickly as possible.

Other than a new name and everything that goes with it, the company said no other changes have been made.

"We're excited about this change which is a very big shift for us. We love this business and love working with the people we have built so many solid relationships with over our tenure in this industry," said Glas.
