Nuance Communications Inc. and radiology software maker Intelerad Medical Systems announced a reseller agreement Tuesday, while product rating firm KLAS dropped its "tip-of-the-spear" report on Intelerad's workflow management product.

Under the deal, Intelerad will sell Nuance' radiology voice-recognition reporting software, Powerscribe 360 reporting, along with its other products.

"We are glad to announce our new partnership with Nuance!" Intelerad, whose U.S. headquarters are near Denver, said on Twitter Tuesday morning.

KLAS innovation review

Intelerad makes RIS, PACS, image sharing and viewing, disaster recovery, and workflow software. By coincidence, KLAS released what it dubbed an innovation review Tuesday covering Intelerad's InteleOne workflow management product. This "unified reading solution" aims to increase efficiency and turnaround time by pooling workflows from different PACS, HIS and RIS into a common image viewer and worklist.

In a free teaser of its survey of 22 providers from 13 of the 15 sites that have the product deployed, KLAS said more than 70 percent reported a good or excellent return-on-investment and 81 percent improved client relationships. About half said efficiencies were the best part of working with the product.

"Our radiologists love having the single worklist," a chief technology officer told the Orem, Utah-based research firm. "Before, they were jumping from PACS to PACS to PACS."

However, respondents did note that the system requires IT know-how to set up and those without it could have a difficult time getting the interfaces up and running by themselves, according to KLAS. The report is "Intelerad InteleOne: A KLAS Innovation Review."
