The U.S. health care sector gained 43,500 jobs in September, as the total nonfarm payroll enrollment added 114,000 new jobs and unemployment dipped to 7.8 percent, the lowest since President Obama took office, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday.

In health care, which added the most new jobs of any sector, most of the new positions were in ambulatory services, which picked up 29,800 new jobs. About 6,600 of these were at doctors' offices. Meanwhile hospitals gained more than 8,000 new jobs, the BLS said in its seasonally adjusted jobs report. For the last 12 months, health care employment has risen 295,000, the bureau said, putting total health care employment numbers at 14.4 million.
