The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 2012 annual meeting in New York acknowledged a collaborative health care outreach program on Monday that's bringing women in rural and semi-urban areas of India much-needed services such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and osteoporosis screenings.

Through a public-private partnership among Philips Healthcare, the non-profit, non-governmental organization RAD-AID, and the governmental Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), the mobile health care outreach program is giving women in India access to advanced screening tests with imaging technology.

The program was described as "life-saving" during Monday's CGI panel discussion titled "Champions of Action."

The program, called Asha Jyoti (or "Ray of Hope" in Hindi and Punjabi), is the outcome of a five-year commitment from Philips, RAD-AID, and PGIMER to provide health screenings and follow-up care to thousands of underserved women in Northern India every year.

According to a statement from Philips, the collaboration represents each partner's commitment to develop and distribute radiology health care solutions where they are needed most. Philips and RAD-AID are both members of CGI.

RAD-AID, which provides an array of health imaging services to developing countries, will also support and train health care workers on the ground in India. RAD-AID and Philips Learning Center will launch an online portal with online radiology learning activities as well.
