The annual Medica conference and expo draws more than 138,000 visitors from more than 100 countries from all sectors of health care. The conference boasts the largest product display in the industry. Every year, there are about 4,300 exhibitors from all across the globe, displaying innovativeproducts and services. The tens of thousands of visitors sift through 18 halls, checking out products and making connections. This year, Medica expects more than 450 exhibitors from the United States and Canada.

“The high number of registrants is a sign of optimism in the medical technology industry, and the number of exhibitors has already seen a significant increase in comparison to last year,” Joachim Schäfer, managing director of conference host Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, which puts on the conference, said in prepared remarks e-mailed to DOTmed News.

The organization anticipates 60 percent of the visitors to be from the medical industry.

“With the combination of trade fair, congress and integrated forums, Medica is geared toward top managers and decision makers from the ambulatory and stationery sector, such as physicians, medical specialist staff, hospital management, medical specialist trade and the industry,” Schäfer said.

The November show will feature electro medical equipment and medical technology, laboratory equipment, diagnostics, physiotherapy and orthopedic technology, commodities and consumer goods, communication and information technology, and medical services and publications.

The Medica Congress, also to be held during the conference, will include lectures on major common health ailments such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and age-related diseases. It will also offer advanced training courses on subjects such as sonography, emergency medicine and endoscopy.

Medica offers two U.S. Pavilions, an “ideal way for small- to medium-sized companies to make a greater impact…and is a cost-effective way to begin or increase overseas trade,” according to the organization.

And to further integrate the expo and congress, for the first time ever, Medica will offer a series of seminars held in English. The series will include “Innovations in Endoscopy,” led by Dr. Horst Neuhaus of the Protestant Hospital in Dusseldorf, “Updates in Valvular Heart Disease” and “New Developments in Neurology and Neuroradiology.”

This year, Medica will also host the 33rd German Hospital Conference for decision-makers in hospital management.

Medica 2010 will be held Nov. 17 to Nov. 20 at the Düsseldorf Fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.
