Cambridge Consultants announced that Mark Manasas has been appointed Manager of the Surgical & Interventional Products Group out of the company's Cambridge, MA office. He has held other positions at Cambridge Consultants, and worked at leading MedTech companies including Johnson & Johnson to startups like Fossa Medical, Inc.

Manasas will lead a team of engineers and scientists in designing and developing surgical and therapeutic products for preoperative, perioperative and postoperative procedures as well as developing and improving manufacturing processes for these products.

"Based on Mark's deep technology expertise and successful track record of bringing surgical devices through clinical trials to market, we are thrilled to expand his leadership role at Cambridge Consultants," said Pamela McNamara, President of U.S. Operations. "Given Mark's experience and our location in Boston, a major center for academic and medical research, we are poised to develop exciting new technology for the surgical industry, and hope to play a significant role in emerging fields such as active implantables."

The Surgical & Interventional Products Group targets the design and development of active implantables such as pacemakers, defibrillators and neurostimulation devices, the emerging bio-sensing field that includes continuous glucose and EKG monitoring; and both minimally invasive and the emerging field of natural orifice surgeries (MIS and NOS) that includes natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery.

"This is an exciting time for the industry, and I am very pleased to lead this talented team of engineers, scientists, designers and industry experts both in the US and the UK," said Manasas. "Combining our wide range of expertise from surgical to drug delivery to wireless communications, we are in an excellent position to help the clients we work with, including both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies, advance and accelerate important and potentially life-saving innovations to market."

Manasas was previously Project Manager at Cambridge Consultants, joining the company in 2005, where he has developed work programs and built and managed highly successful project teams for medical companies in the areas of cardiac assist, cardiac rhythm management, obesity, GERD, glucose monitoring, electrosurgery and drug delivery.

Prior to joining Cambridge Consultants, Manasas was President of Manasas R&D, a design consultancy providing medical device development services.

He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and Worcester Polytechnic Institute respectively. Manasas is named as an inventor on nine U.S. patents for devices, instrumentation and materials.
