NovaGuard SA safety system
West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. has received 510(k) clearance for their NovaGuard SA (Staked-needle Automatic) safety system. The safety system helps reduce the risk of needlestick injuries by shielding the exposed needle of a prefilled syringe after use.

Injectable drug delivery systems that incorporate a safety mechanism can significantly reduce the risk of accidental needlestick injuries. The NovaGuard SA safety system helps protect patients and health care workers by shielding a syringe’s exposed needle once activated. The NovaGuard SA safety system is suitable for prefilled ISO standard glass syringes and provides a tamper-evident needle shield feature and a safety mechanism which helps to prevent preactivation of the system.


Pure Station FlexiPump independent flushing system
PURE PROCESSING LLC, has developed a highly versatile new flushing device for use when pre-cleaning reusable instruments with lumens and channels.

The FlexiPump system can be installed on a counter, on a wall or in a sink, and can be used with or without the Pure Station Medical Devices Pre-Cleaning System. It can be used to augment existing pumps, and up to three devices/ lumens can be flushed at one time through each FlexiPump unit. The system has been tested and validated for use with a wide variety of reusable lumened devices, including rigid and flexible endoscopic, minimally invasive surgical, ocular and robotic instruments, and suction tips. The FlexiPump system connects to most devices without luer locks, and its pressure relief feature helps protect scopes during flushing.


Physical assessment products with integrated LED lamps
Welch Allyn now offers its most popular otoscope and ophthalmoscope instruments, diagnostic sets and wall systems with an integrated light emitting diode (LED) lamp.

The optional LED lamps will be available in the company’s four most popular core diagnostic device platforms - traditional otoscopes, MacroView otoscopes, traditional ophthalmoscopes, and PanOptic ophthalmoscopes. Welch Allyn LED lamps feature patented Sure- Color technology, which provides consistent color output while light intensity is lowered to improve the view or increase patient comfort. It allows the color of the light to remain the same even as the light intensity is dimmed.


New readers based on demand from breast implant industry
VeriTeQ Corporation has unveiled two new readers used to identify VeriTeQ’s Q Inside Safety Technology within implantable medical devices: the Q Inside Reader + and the Q Inside Reader XR +.

The readers will identify VeriTeQ’s Q Inside Safety Technology micro-transponders used for unique medical device identification. The Q Inside Reader + is Bluetooth-enabled and comes complete with a USB lead for charging the reader’s internal rechargeable battery. The Q Inside Reader XR + is also Bluetooth-enabled and has an extended read-range.

VeriTeQ’s FDA cleared Q Inside Safety Technology acts as an electronic serial number in breast implants and other implantable and reusable medical devices to provide physicians and patients access to secure online databases to retrieve device-specific data, such as serial number, manufacturer name, date of manufacture, lot number, volume, size, and other data from the medical device manufacturer.




PULS-R simulation finger
Rigel Medical has introduced a new simulation finger, which combined with its advanced hand-held UNISIM simulator, provides the world’s smallest, high performance all-in-one vital signs solution.

The compact Rigel PULS-R universal SpO2 simulation finger can produce accurate SpO2 simulations in 1 percent resolution from as low as 30 percent using the pre-programmed manufacturer specific R-curves. It can also be configured to meet customer specific R-curves via a simple-to-use configuration tool. When linked with the UNISIM vital signs simulator — capable of undertaking NIBP, SpO2, ECG, temperature, IBP and respiration functionality tests simultaneously — it provides improved and customized vital signs simulation and measurement. Administration time is also reduced as the data recording and storage is undertaken directly and automatically.
